Terezinha Rigno and her husband Antônio have been farming coffee for over 40 years. Together, they own several farms in the town of Piatã, in Chapada Diamantina, Brazil. The couple is well-known for bringing together the coffee community in the area, sharing their knowledge and expertise, and sharing the fruits of their labour with their staff, most of whom have been working for them for over 20 years. Coffees from Terezinha and Antônio’s farms have won multiple Cup of Excellence awards in the past, which Antônio attributes to the people he works with; “Many people ask me how I have been so successful in the Cup of Excellence competition. The terroir is important, but the real reason is my people.” On the farm itself (known as São Judas) a portion is reserved for natural forest, which is consistently enriched and improved by the planting of new trees.
