Narrative

For smallholder farmers in the remote villages of Lufa and Okapa, coffee is their primary source of income, often grown alongside subsistence crops. Historically, these farmers lacked access to quality-focused equipment and sorting facilities, leading to quick, low-value sales and diminished investment in quality. In 2015, Maureen Ken established Lass Malo Coffee (LMC) to support these farmers by providing accessibility and quality improvements, enabling them to sell their coffee at higher prices. LMC assists with farm management, harvesting, and post-harvest practices, and transports dried parchment to their expanding dry mill in Goroka. Continuous improvements at LMC, including a new factory and grading systems, have significantly enhanced the quality and consistency of coffee from the region.

This Coffee Plants Trees

When you buy this product, mangrove trees are planted on your behalf in either Madagascar, Mozambique, or Kenya. This gives crucial income to local villagers so they can provide for their families.

Mangrove forests are essential coastal ecosystems. They store four times as much carbon as even tropical rainforest, making them an important tool to mitigate climate change.

The trees are planted by Eden Reforestation Projects.
