Narrative

Bruno Henrique grows coffee on his family’s farm, Nossa Senhora, in the Mantiqueira region of Minas Gerais, Brazil. Bruno is only 16 years old and has been around coffee his entire life. His family bought Nossa Senhora 24 years ago, and have been working there ever since. Bruno became interested in coffee production after attending specialty coffee events with his mother. The variety of Bruno’s coffee, known as “Yellow Bourbon” (named after the colour of its ripened fruit) is a subtype of the Arabica cultivar known as “Bourbon”. Bourbon variety coffee was first grown in Réunion (formerly known as Île Bourbon). The variety did not leave the island until the 1800s, when missionaries distributed seeds throughout the Americas and Africa, and in 1860, it was introduced to Brazil where it is still largely cultivated today.
