At Timely Coffees, every coffee we source has a story—a place, a producer, and a unique environment that shapes its character. Timely One is first and foremost a flavour profile, which is consistent year-round, but whose actual origin changes every couple of months. Our latest iteration of Timely One comes from Finca El Morito, a farm in the Jalapa department of Guatemala, where high altitudes, rich biodiversity, and careful cultivation practices result in an exceptional cup.
The Farm: Finca El Morito
Finca El Morito is owned by Jose Roberto Monterroso Pineda and is situated in Aldea Morales, Mataquescuintla, at an elevation ranging from 1,450 to 2,350 meters above sea level. The farm itself spans 672 hectares, with 188.4 hectares dedicated to coffee cultivation and over 400 hectares preserved as a natural forest. This balance between agriculture and conservation helps maintain biodiversity, soil health, and the overall sustainability of the land.

The Coffee Landscape
One of the standout features of Finca El Morito is the variety of coffee trees grown on the farm. With varieties like Pache, Catuai, Bourbon, Mundo Novo, Maragogipe, Pacamara, Geisha, and more, the farm produces coffee with a range of complex and vibrant flavours. These varieties thrive in the farm’s clay loam soil and benefit from a climate that shifts between warm and cool, with temperatures ranging from 7°C to 30°C.
Shade-Grown
El Morito uses a diverse mix of shade trees, including walnut, mahogany, palo blanco, cedar, and oak. These trees provide natural cover for the coffee plants, regulating temperature, improving soil quality, and fostering a habitat for local wildlife. The farm’s commitment to conservation is evident in its extensive protected forest areas, ensuring that coffee cultivation does not come at the cost of environmental degradation.
Harvest & Quality
Coffee is harvested from December to April, with meticulous care taken to ensure only ripe cherries are picked. The farm produces Strictly Hard Bean (SHB) quality coffee—a designation that is sometimes given to beans grown at high altitudes, which contributes to their dense structure and refined flavour profile. With a planting density of 1,750 to 3,500 plants per block, each harvest is a product of careful planning.
