I think it's safe to say that we've all found ourselves in this situation: we're walking along, minding our own business, when someone pushes a sample of some product or another toward us and says, "have you tried this?". This is never a good experience, not for you (the consumer) and not for them (the seller). But this is too often the only sales technique that many companies know. The idea that you have to be assertive, pushy, and intrusive to sell your product is what many companies assume to be the only way to "win" customers. "Always be selling" is their mantra. At Timely Coffees, we don't want to do that.
When considering our sample process for potential wholesale accounts, we've adopted a new approach. It all starts with having the end goal in mind and working back from there. For our wholesale operation, the end goal is simple. We want to find businesses who will be happier serving Timely that they would be otherwise. It's that simple. It's not about selling or roasting more coffee. It's not about manipulating people into buying Timely if it's not going to make them happier or get them closer to achieving their goals. Then, once we had the end goal in mind, we had to think about how we would realise it. We knew from the beginning that if we wanted to achieve our goal, we couldn't do so by compromising our values along the way. So, we had to find a way to make ourselves accessible to those who wanted to try us, but without doing so in a way that makes others feel uncomfortable.
To achieve this, we've introduced the Timely Sample Pack. This sample process invites potential wholesale accounts to request coffee from us to try at their venue. All you have to do is head to the timely wholesale sample page, add the free sample pack to your cart, then go through the checkout. Samples cost nothing (we even cover the express shipping), and we send them out the next day.
Every sample pack includes:
- 1 x 1kg bag of Timely One
- 1 x 1kg bag of Timely Two
- 1 x 250g box of Timely Decaf
- 3 x 250g boxes of our favourite seasonal micro-lots
- and a whole bunch of Timely merch.
There's no sales pitch, and there's no angle - if you try Timely and you want to serve it at your business, then great! We're always on the lookout for like-minded venues with which we can work. If you try the sample pack and feel that serving Timely isn't the right fit for you right now, then that's also completely fine. We want all our wholesale partners to succeed, so the last thing we want is a venue serving Timely if it's not the right fit!
We supply coffee businesses of all shapes and sizes, from cafes and restaurants to grocers, school canteens, and inner-city offices. If you serve coffee at your venue and want to give Timely a try, or if you know someone who does, head over to the wholesale sample page. It's a simple system that puts the experience first.
Until next time,
Seb Prosser
