As coffee roasters, one of the most exciting things about buying coffee is the opportunity to discover something new and unique each season. The calendar is always packed with new samples, cuppings, and arrivals, ensuring that we are continually on the lookout for fresh and exciting options. Recently, we’ve been thrilled to share one of our latest new lots with you – a coffee from the Kirorero Washing Station in Rwanda’s Western Province, produced by members of COOPAC co-operative.
Landscape in Rwanda's Western Province, where coffee processed at Kirorero Washing Station is produced
When we first cupped this coffee, we were immediately struck by its flavour profile. Notes of nectarine, dark chocolate, and dried apple created a cup that was vibrant and complex, and we immediately made the decision to purchase it through our partners at Cafe Imports. This coffee offered the perfect addition to our catalogue.
At Kirorero Washing Station, coffee is processed using the "washed" method, a technique that results in a clean and bright cup. But what makes Kirorero's process unique is their post-fermentation soaking step. After fermentation, the beans are soaked for a further 24 hours, a step that enhances the clarity and depth of flavour in the coffee.

Beyond the exceptional coffee, Kirorero and the COOPAC cooperative play a vital role in the community. COOPAC, founded in 2001, has grown to support over 2,198 farmers across Rwanda, and its commitment to community development is a cornerstone of their vision. The cooperative invests in infrastructure, building schools, healthcare centres, and roads to support the region’s growth.
COOPAC also champions sustainability through organic farming practices and agroforestry techniques. These practices not only protect the environment but also ensure the long-term viability of coffee production in Rwanda. This combination of environmental stewardship and social responsibility is why we are proud to partner with COOPAC and share their story with you.

We’re honoured to bring this coffee to your cup and to continue supporting the farmers who make it all possible.
