Today is IDAHOBIT 2021, so we're giving away free Timely pronoun badges with every order. Keep on reading to find out what IDAHOBIT means, and how you can get involved.
May 17 is IDAHOBIT, otherwise known as the International Day Against LGBTQIA+ Discrimination. It's a day to show not only how we can stand up against discrimination but also work towards a more inclusive culture for everyone. So, with this in mind, here's what we're doing in recognition of IDAHOBIT 2021... We've just released a brand new range of products called "Free Merch", which includes the Timely pronoun badges. The idea behind pronoun badges is not our own, and we're not the first to do it, the only difference is that we've had these made in our unique Timely style.
What is a pronoun? Pronouns are the words we use to refer to someone when not using their name. Some common ones are she/her/hers, he/him/his, and they/them/theirs. It is common in transgender-friendly spaces to share your pronouns when introducing yourself, or in your email signature. Sharing pronouns demonstrates your awareness that some people’s pronouns and how they feel on the inside might not match how society perceives them to look on the outside. Wearing a pronoun badge is a way for an individual to let the world know what pronouns they use. The sharing of pronouns in this way, whether you’re cisgender or transgender, is important because it normalises that appearance does not equal gender identity.
In our experience at Timely, we've found that pronoun badges can be mighty. Not only do they let people express themselves, but they also help to create a safe and inclusive environment for everyone. Not only do the trans staff members of Timely wear these pronoun badges, but so do our cisgender members of staff. Our goal is that anyone who walks in and interacts with us here at Timely knows what we stand for, that this is a safe space for people of all gender identities, backgrounds, and sexualities. In the spirit of IDAHOBIT, this is the time we listen to, learn about, and show support for the LGBTQIA+ community. Wearing pronoun badges is easy for us to do, but something that can profoundly affect positive inclusive cultural change.
